Thomas Nelson "Skeeter" Abbott, 87 of Bedford, died Wednesday, November 07, 2012 in Oakwood Manor. He was born in Bedford on February 6, 1925 and was the last surviving son of seven children of the late Robert Neal Abbott and Mae Fifer Abbott. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Edison Abbott, Virginia Abbott Roberts, Richard Calvin Abbott, Leonard Carlton Abbott, Louis Neal Abbott and Elizabeth Abbott Viars. Skeeter was owner and operator of Abbott's Cab Co. for over 23 years. He attended the Bedford Church of God and was a U. S. Army Veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doris M. Abbott, a son, Randall Abbott; a daughter, Teresa A. Silsbee and husband, Brian. Memorials contributions may be made to the , 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
