Dr. Whitford was an honored member of the Masonic fraternity, and also of the Old Timers' Association of Silver Bow County. He built three hospitals in MT, one being the Miner's Hospital in Butte in 1868, the others in Virginia City and Rochester.

He purchased a mine in Cable and two in Beaverhead County and was owner of the silver mine, Wanderer, which he purchased in 1876. From 1871-1874 he was the surgeon at the penitentiary at Deer Lodge. Dr. Whitford was the first Silver Bow County coroner.

Son of Augustus Hall(NY) and Charlotte Bidwell(NY) Whitford.

Marriage to Mary Jane Tanner 26 November 1854 Noble CO., IN.
Mary died July 4, 1870 in Deer Lodge.
