Eugene "Gene" Marvin Eagle

Eugene Marvin "Gene" Eagle of Jacksonville, FL, age 76, died on November 4, 2012, after a brief battle with an unexpected illness. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, he leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and will be forever missed. He was born on October 25, 1936 in Martinsville, Henry County, VA, to Marvin Carl Eagle and Anne Elizabeth (Steagall) Eagle. On October 2, 1953, he married Elizabeth "Libby" Lanier, the prettiest girl he had ever seen, and the love of his life, best friend and partner for 59 years. A skilled craftsman with an unrivaled work ethic, he joined the Dixon Powdermaker Company at the age of 17, where he carved beautiful details into elegant French provincial furniture. For over 20 years, he served as a glazing superintendent at Florida Glass, before founding his own company, Eagle's Glass & Mirror in 1991. He loved football, NASCAR, old cars and westerns, as well as his cats, Maude and Allie. But above all else, he was deeply devoted to his family. His mother, father and sister, Doris (Eagle) Thompson, predeceased him. His beloved wife, Elizabeth (Lanier) Eagle, and four children, Karen (Eagle) Fisher and her husband, James "Jim" Fisher, Rusty Eagle, Wayne Eagle and his wife, Kimberly "Kim" Eagle, and Carol Eagle, his six granddaughters, Shawna Deiulio and her husband Kenneth "Kenny" Deiulio, Jennifer Mikosky and her husband, Brock Mikosky, Lacey Roe and her husband, David Roe, Brandi Wiggins and her husband, Wayne Wiggins, Kristin Eagle and Kaley Eagle, his only grandson, Patrol Officer T.J. Hogg, and two great-grandchildren, his sisters, Shirley (Eagle) Lovelace and Judy (Eagle) Stokes and her husband Robert "Bob" Stokes survived him. Many members of his extended family, and countless friends and business associates, all of whom share in the loss of his passing also survived him. His family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to those who compassionately cared for him in his final days, including Sharon Browning and "CeCe" Spencer at St. Vincent's Medical Center. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, Clay County, FL, followed by a funeral service on Friday, November 9 at 2:00 P.M.
