She was born on July 25, 1954, in Baltimore, MD, a daughter of Regina (Szymkowiak) Gomes of Newport and Manuel A. Gomes. She graduated from Baltimore Public Schools and earned her Bachelor degree from Goucher College in Baltimore.
Kathy furthered her education at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where she earned her Masters of Divinity degree. As an ordained United Methodist Minister, Rev. Austin served the North Central New York Conference at churches in New London, Vienna and lastly in Newport and Middleville. Kathy retired on July 1, 1987, due to her disability with Multiple Sclerosis.
She was previously married to Dale E. Austin.
