Lieutenant Commander Mack Tharpe (US Navy) was killed in action in World War II, and his body was lost at sea. He is memorialized at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was married to Jane (McMillan) Tharpe of Atlanta.
