Member, Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. During a 35-year coaching career, his teams won 644 games. He coached at Greencastle (IN) HS, Washington (IN) HS and Lafayette (IN) Jefferson HS. He coached 2 state championship teams at Washington (1941, 42) and 2 more more at Lafayette Jefferson (1948, 1964). His teams also were state runners-up 3 times. For many years he doubled as Jefferson's athletic director and also coached football, compiling 93 victories and a number-one state ranking in 1950. He also served as the first executive director of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. One of his players at Washington HS, multisport star Charles B. "Chuck" Harmon, became the first African American to play for the Cincinnati Reds. Jefferson High School's athletic stadium, Crawley Field, is named in his honor.
