Robert then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed on the USS Princeton during World War II. After the war, he worked for Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1979. Robert was an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientists, Ann Arbor and was active with the Masons. Robert is survived by three sons, Robert, John and Peter (Gigi) Bailey; grandchildren, Jami, Kathleen, Clare, Andrew and Kailyn; and his great-grandson, Noah. Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Fuerstnau) Bailey. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Nie Family Funeral Home, Carpenter Road Chapel, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientists, 1833 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
