Hermin was the daughter of Aleida (Ten Brinke) and Herman Jansen. At the age of nine she with her family moved to the Yakima Valley, settling in Sunnyside. Hermina graduated with the Sunnyside High School Class of 1946. On August 1, 1950 she married Leonard Vander Lugt in Sunnyside, WA. Hermina worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses in Sunnyside before she began her long career as a bookkeeper for the Sunnyside School District. Following her retirement in July of 1986, she and Leonard enjoyed family trips to Hawaii and Alaska. Hermina loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing games, cards, and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed quilting and baking. Her specialties were Peach Pie and Huckleberry Fluff. She was a member of the Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church and dearly loved her church family.

Hermina is survived by her husband of fifty-two years. Leonard Vander Lugt; one son, Ron(Tammy)Vander Lugt and one daughter, Judy Bulmer.. Three grandchildren, Bryan, Kevin, and Lindsey. One sister Dena Workman. She is preceded in death by her parts; one brother, William "Bill" Jansen and one sister, Johanna Workman.
