Olive Ann Meining, dear sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully with family on August 14, 2010.

Olive was born July 2, 1925 in Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Victor and Sophie Meining, and was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1943 and attended Wayne State University in Detroit MI before graduating from the University of Iowa in 1948.

She entered the US Navy in 1948 and spent the next twenty years in service, achieving the rank of Lt Commander. During this time, she earned a Masters in Ed Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1969, she enrolled in the University of Michigan School of Information Science and earned her second Master's Degree in Library Science. Her first job as a librarian was at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Ariz., where she spent five years as a reference and government documents librarian.

In 1976, she came to Auburn as a Reference Librarian with the Mountain Valley Library System. She retired in 1987 and became active with the American Association of University Women, Friends of the Auburn-Placer County Library, AARP and Sierra Foothills Unitarian-Universalist Church.

Olive is survived by her sister Helen Sue Mikels of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; nieces Helen Jean Fingar of Lancaster, Pa., Maureen Mimari (George) of San Antonio, Tex., Cordelia Sheets Reilly of the Netherlands, Manette Gebhardt (William) of Pleasant Hill; nephews John Lassila (Diane) of Green Bay, Wis., Peter Sheets (Mary Anne) of North Liberty, Iowa, Michael Sheets (Jan) of Kaysville, Utah; four great-nieces, seven great-nephews and eight great-great-nieces and nephews.
