Clarice Schmidt (100336871)

Clarice Mae Schmidt, 67, a Greencreek, Idaho, farmer and Idaho County treasurer, died Sunday of cancer at St. Mary's Hospital here.

She was born June 26, 1928, at Lewiston to Joseph and Dorothy Sanders Feucht. She grew up on the family farm five miles above Jacques Spur, Idaho, and attended St. Joseph's Mission School on Mission Creek. She graduated from Marycliff High School at Spokane in 1946.

She married Harry J. Schmidt Oct. 6, 1949, at Greencreek, and they lived on a farm two miles west of Greencreek.

She was a homemaker and public servant. She was a founding member of the St. Mary's Emergency Medical System. She also served as an advanced emergency medical technician and helped train and support the first all-volunteer EMS for the Cottonwood area.

She served almost six terms as the Idaho County treasurer, and during her tenure she used investment strategies that earned the county almost $5 million in interest.

She enjoyed lapidary, spending time with her grandchildren, and gardening, especially flowers.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Greencreek and the St. Anthony Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, Harry Schmidt of Greencreek; four daughters, Linda Dalton of San Rafael, Calif., Joann Hollandsworth of Columbus, Ga., Debra Schmidt of Tacoma and Ruth Moody of Spokane; five sons, Henry Schmidt and Duane Schmidt, both of Lewiston, John Schmidt of Davenport, Wash., Phil Schmidt of Moses Lake, Wash., and Monte Schmidt of Moscow; two brothers, Don Feucht of Culdesac and Marvin Feucht of Lewiston; three sisters, Joan Stubbers and Margie Schumacher, both of Greencreek, and Barbara Broncheau of Post Falls; and 10 grandchildren.

One daughter, Beth; and one granddaughter died previously.

A vigil and rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's with the Rev. Canisius Hayes as celebrant.

Burial will follow at the Greencreek Community Cemetery. Uhlorn Funeral Home at Cottonwood is making the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Hospital Ambulance Fund.
