Harry John Schmidt, 75, a retired construction worker and farmer, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the Idaho State Veterans Home, after a lengthy illness.

Harry was born March 30, 1925, in Greencreek to Henry and Elizabeth Jansen Schmidt. He was one of nine children. He grew up and graduated from Greencreek High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, aboard the USS Casablanca.

Harry married Clarice Feucht on Oct. 6, 1949, in Greencreek, where they made their home. They were blessed with 10 children and 44 years of marriage before Clarice died in 1995.

Harry enjoyed many hobbies including fly tying, leather working, rawhide braiding and spending time with friends and family.

He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the VFW, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. He was also a 20-year volunteer with St. Mary's Ambulance crew in Cottonwood.

In addition to his parents and his stepmother, Lona Schmidt, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice; a daughter, Beth; granddaughter, Breigh; one sister, Sophie Schmidt; four brothers, Father Urban, Dick, Virgil and Edward Schmidt.

His survivors include five sons and four daughters and their families: Linda and John Dalton of San Francisco; Joann and Gene Hollandsworth with daughter Leann and son Clay, of Wahiawa, Hawaii; Henry Schmidt of Lewiston; Duane and Becky Schmidt of Lewiston, with daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Craig Heimgartner and son Tyler; Debbie Schmidt of Tacoma, Wash.; Ruth Moody of Newman Lake, Wash., with sons, Jason and Justin and daughter Kelcee; John and Diana Schmidt of Genesee, with son, Jeremy and daughter, Chandra; Philip and Rhonda Schmidt of Greencreek, with sons, Christopher and Carson and daughter, Keely; Monte and Johanne Schmidt of Lewiston, with son, DJ and daughter, Leah.

He is also survived by one brother, Lewis and Mary Schmidt of Cottonwood; two sisters, Adelle and Ken Logan of Boise; Betty and Willie Wessels of Dayton; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Schmidt of Clarkston, Dorothy Schmidt of Cottonwood and Carole Toennis of Greencreek.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church in Greencreek. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, also at St. Anthony's. Burial will follow at Greencreek Cemetery.
