Jacob, third child of Jan Van Etten & Jannetje Roosa, was baptised December 25, 1696. He was a farmer and a freeholder of the town of Kingston, New York, in 1728, and an active member of the foot company of militia of Kingston under the command of Capt. Tjrck Dewitt in 1738. In the Uster County census of slaves, on April 2, 1755, he was listed as being the master of a "negro wens Feb is 18 jers old." In 1775, as an inhabitant of Kingston, New York, he signed the articles of "general Association," "opposing the execution of the several arbitrary and oppressive acts of the British Parliament."
Jacob married April 22, 1719, to Antjen "Anna" Westbrook, daughter of Johannes Westbrook & Magdalena Decker, baptised July 28, 1700; died 1783 in Hurley, New York. 8 children:
Jan "John", Helena "Magdalena", Cornelius, Anthony, Jannetjen "Jane", Johannes, Sarah, & Dirk "Richard".
