Marva Jean Brownfield


Marva Jean "Jeanie" Brownfield, of Ponca City, Oklahoma went home to Heaven on Monday, November 5, 2012. She was 65.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Faith Tabernacle with Rev, Don Stanton, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory of Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Jeanie was born on August 23, 1947 to the Marvin and Margaret (Fields) Croft in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

She grew up in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca High School in 1965.

She married Robert Gene Gonterman and the couple was blessed with two children. Jeanie worked for the U.S. Postal Service and held the honor of being the first female mail carrier in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was the first pregnant woman carrier.

Jeanie retired after 30 years with the Post Office. Jeanie married Danny Brownfield and they remained in Ponca City where they made their home. She was a talented seamstress, never needing the help of a pattern. She was also very handy and could fix most anything.

She was a member of the Schooner Car Club and enjoyed taking road trips in her 1965 Classic Truck.

She enjoyed singing at Gospel Mike's Jubilee. Jeanie loved the Lord and was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church family where she served in many different capacities. One such role was making children smile by playing the role of "Gerty the Clown" for the children's ministry department.

Jeanie fulfilled many roles in her life but the one role she adored the most, was being a grandma. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan and whether she was cheering them on at a soccer game or attending a dance recital, Jeanie's favorite pastime was being with her family.

Her family members include one daughter, Christy Harland and her husband Shane of Ponca City; one son, Shane Gonterman of Indiana; grandchildren, Chrissen Harland, Crayton Harland, Christyona Harland, Chrislyn Harland and Jimmy Gonterman and one "adopted" granddaughter Marchelle Carnes; one sister, Chris Burk and her husband Bob of Ponca City; her mother, Margaret "Maggie" Croft of Ponca City and her fun-loving sidekick, David Tyler.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Croft and one brother, Jimmy Croft.

Casket bearers will be Joe Tompkins, Rowdy DeMarquette, Sean Stanton, Randy Scott, David Carnes, Chuck Crane and Barry Burk.

Honorary Casket bearers will be Dean Stolhand, Gene Hutchison, Mike Riggs, and Kenny Sherron.
