STAFF SERGEANT US ARMY AIR FORCES - OUTFIT: 379 BOMB GROUP, 527 BOMB SQUADRON. - THEATER OF OPERATIONS: EUROPEAN - ENGAGEMENTS: 35 MISSIONS OVER EUROPE - MEDALS EARNED: AIR MEDAL WITH 3 OAK LEAF CLUSTERS, DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS, GOOD CONDUCT, WORLD WAR II VICTORY MEDAL - SERVED 33 Mo. --------------------------------------James D. Johnstone, 84, of Hyndman passed away Tuesday, March 20k 2007, at WMHS Sacred heart Hospital.



Born Oct. 31, 1922, in Hollidaysburg, he was a son of the late James C. and Irene M. (Leamer) Johnstone. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters; Dorothy Calhoun and Alverta Hugar.



Surviving are Agnes L. (Knode) Johnston, his wife of 64 years, who he married Nov 6, 1942; children; James L. Johnston and wife, Martha Jane of Dunn, NC; Bobby W. Johnston and wife, Barbara, of Cape Canaveral, Fla; Suzanne Emerick and husband, Steve of Hyndman; Jan S. Johnstone and wife, Barbara, of Titusville, Fla.; a sister, Helen Lehman of Bedford; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.



Mr. Johnstone served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a Flight engineer on B-17s and flew 30 missions in the European Theater during WWII.



He was a retired mail carrier for 32 years at the Hyndman Post Office and a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Hyndman VFW Oscar Jordan Post 7375, the Hyndman Masonic Lodge No. 589 F&AM, and a member of the N.A.R.F.E.



Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm and Saturday form 10 to 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1st Ave., Hyndman.



A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at 1stUnited Methodist Church, 1st Ave, Hyndman, with the Rev. Julie Applegate and the Re. Mark Blair officiating.



Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.ONTHS. ---------------------.
