He is mentioned in his grandson's (William A. McLain) biography in "Portrait and Biographical Album, Pike & Calhoun Counties, Illinois"
The biography said "he removed from Tennessee to Kentucky to Missouri and finally to Illinois, residing in Pike county until his death. He was a farmer and at the time of his decease was a member of the Baptist Church. His daughter, Cynthia bore her husband seven children, William A., Nancy, John, Elizabeth, Melinda, Ruth and Murray, all of whom lived to establish homes of their own."
