Mitsuko Garcia passed away October 7, 2008 at Liberty Hospital after an extended battle with cancer. Mitsuko was born March 1, 1933, in Tokyo, Japan. She met her husband, Joe, at the Johnson Air Base in Japan where she worked, and he served as a member of the United States Air Force. They were married at the American Embassy in Tokyo on March 14, 1960. In 1962 Mitsuko and her husband moved to the United States. They were transferred around the country with Joe's military assignments. In 1971 they relocated to Missouri for Joe's last assignment at Whiteman Air Force Base. Joe retired from the Air Force in 1974, and the next year they moved to the Kansas City area. Mitsuko worked for 20 years at Firestone Optics before retiring in 1995. During her adult life, Mitsuko enjoyed sewing, and was an expert seamstress. Mitsuko and her husband were faithful members of the Parkville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Platte City, Missouri. Mitsuko was very dedicated to her family. She and Joe were deeply devoted to one another their entire marriage and to their daughter and grandchildren. Until the day of her passing her family remained the most important thing in her life. Mitsuko was preceded in death by her parents; her baby son, Michael Ray Garcia; and her infant son, Jay Roy Garcia. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph Leon Garcia; her sister, Etsuko Yamamoto; her brothers, Fumiya Yamamoto and Obuchan Yamamoto; her daughter, Tory Garcia Elvin; her son-in-law, James Willam Elvin Jr; her grandson, James Joseph Elvin; and her granddaughter, Maddisen Rose Elvin. The Elvin's reside in Clinton Corners, New York. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday October 11, 2008 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri. The funeral service will follow at the same location.
