Funeral services for John W. Lander were held on Tuesday Jan. 8, 1963 at 2 p.m. from the Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Dreyer officiating. Pallbearers were Louie Moe, Wm. Blehr, Theodore Edman, John Haabala, Art Lamby, Chester Melloh.

John William Lander was born in Kuusamo, Finland on March 10, 1889, the son of Orlando and Greta Lampsa. In 1893 he immigrated to America with his mother and brothers to join the father. They came to Douglas Cty., Moe Twp., where his father had purchased a farm. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and lived most of his life in Moe Twp. and the last few years in the Kensington and Hoffman communities. He passed away at the home of Louie Moe in Solem Twp. on Friday January 4, 1963 at the age of 73 years, 9 mo. and 24 days. Surviving him are five nephews and three nieces: Walmer, Edwin, Raynold, Rudolph and Harry Lander, all of Brandon; Mayme (Mrs. John Hogan) of Kensington, Emily (Mrs. Alex Haabala) and Mildred (Mrs. Donald Peterson) of Brandon. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
