Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Johnson were held at 2 pm from the Trinity Lutheran Church at Holmes City on Feb. 26, 1960. Rev. Oscar Olson officiated. Mrs. Harold Bradley sang "I Shall Know Him" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", accompanied by Mrs. Otto Knarreborg. Mrs. Wm. Anderson served as organist.
Pallbearers were John Bursaw, Carroll Yager, Roger Blanchard, Melvin Johnson, Virgil Johnson and William Johnson.
Interment was in St. Paul's cemetery in Moe Township.
Mrs. Laura Mathilda Johnson was born in Michigan on April 17, 1873, the daughter of John and Margaret Bulea.
She came to Holmes City with her parents when she was two years of age.
On April 17, 1894, she was united in marriage to Edward A. Jonson, to which union nine children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson farmed in Holmes City township until 1921 when they moved to Astabula, Ohio, which was their residence for five years. They came back to Minnesota and resided at Richwood for a short time and then moved back to Holmes City, which has been her residence up until 1958, when she entered the St. Luke's Nursing Home at Alexandria.
Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 1954.
Mrs. Johnson passed away on Monday, Feb. 22, 1960 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 5 days.
Survivors include six children: (Nina) Mrs. Harrison of Los Angeles, California, Edwin Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Minn., (Winnie) Mrs. Gerald Bitzan of East Chicago, Indiana, (Gladys) Mrs. John Bursaw of Minneapolis and (Lorenza) Mrs. Lloyd Chadbourn of Quito Ecuador.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, one son and three brothers.
