Enlisted in Independant Company of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on March 17, 1864, for 3 years at age 35. Promoted to Sergeant on April 5, 1864. On detached service with Company F of the First Michigan Infantry, by order, July 2, 1864, at Petersburg, Virginia. Transferred to Company K of the reorganized Fourth Michigan Infantry, by order, June 6, 1865.
