Leona M. Buettgenbach, 93, of Lincoln, formerly of Beatrice, died in a Lincoln hospital on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012.

She was born Oct. 19, 1919, at Seward, where she grew up with two brothers and three sisters. She was united in holy matrimony with Dewain Buettgenbach on Jan. 1, 1939, and raised three children while working many part-time jobs. She worked at Hughs Brothers in Seward before moving to Beatrice in 1947.

She retired from the Beatrice State Developmental Center, where she had worked in the laundry department. She also reupholstered furniture for many residents in Beatrice and her work can be seen in many homes throughout town. She loved to go camping with her husband and enjoyed fish fries with many friends. For many years, they would go on weekends to Holmesville or Wakefield, Kan., to enjoy the outdoors. She also enjoyed dancing. Most of all, she loved her family and took pride in making sure they were always taken care of. She made lots of chocolate cake and cinnamon rolls for them and always welcomed many friends and family for meals. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and couldn't wait to hold each new baby in her arms and love them.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Buettgenbach and wife, Kathy, of Surprise, Ariz., and Jack Buettgenbach and wife, Marjorie, of Lincoln; one daughter, Jolyn Carnes, and husband, LeRoy, of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Tonniges, of Seward; sister-in-law, Joyce Imig, of Omaha; brother-in-law, Leo Heyen, of Seward; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Marie Blomenkamp Imig; her husband, Dewain, who died Aug. 8, 1999; two sisters, Bernice Heyen and Harriett White; two brothers, Dick and Arnold Imig.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Sharon Schuster, PMA officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Springs Cemetery of Blue Springs. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home until time of services.
