Curtis Newman passed away at his home in Edon, Saturday, April 1, 1939, at the age of sixty four years, five months and fifteen days. He was the son of Henry Newman and Mary L. Osfall, and was born on the 16th of October, 1874, three miles northwest of Edon. Throughout his life he had always lived within four miles of Edon, following the vocation of a farmer.
On the 26th of May, 1894, while still eighteen years of age, Curtis was married to Miss Stellie Meyers, with whom he lived and loved for nearly forty five years.
Six children came to bless this happy union, and make their reunions most interesting events throughout the years. Five of the children have grown to adulthood; one son, Elvin having passed in 1915.
About four or five years following their marriage, both Curtis and Stellie were converted to Christ and joined the Salem Evangelical Church, later transferring their church membership to the Edon Methodist Episcopal Church.
For years Curtis was a member of a male quartette which was frequently called upon to bring the comfort and hope of song to bereaved loved ones on such occasions as this. Mr. E. E. Dewire is now the one living member of that quartette.
Curtis Newman was a man well thought of, and his friends are numbered by the hundreds. During the last few years he has been terribly handicapped by a persistent physical trouble that at last zapped his strength and brought him to the end of a helpful and happy life.
Those left to cherish his memory, as members of his immediate family, are his loving companion and wife, Stellie, and four daughters; Mrs. Carl Moore, Angola, Ind., Mrs. Glen Willibey, Montpelier, O., Mrs. Bennie Crowl, Butler, Ind., and one son, Carlton, of Edon. There are also one daughter-in-law, four sons-in-law, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers: Jessie of Clare, Mich., and Clarence of Ann Arbor; two sisters, Mrs. Sinus Beebe of Auburn, Ind., and Mrs. Ellis Maginn, Fayette, O., and a host of relatives and friends.

"Then be content, dear heart,
God's plans, like the lilies pure and white unfold;
We must not tear the close-shut leaves apart.
Time will reveal the calyxes of gold;
And if through patient toil we reach the land
Where tired feet, with sandals loosed, may rest,
Where we shall clearly see and understand,
I know that we will say "God knew the best".
