STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Former Staten Islander Frank Gondar, 60, of Albany, who had a love for music and the great outdoors, died Monday in Albany Memorial Hospital after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Gondar was born in Augsburg, Germany, where his father was serving in the U.S. military. The family moved to Mariners Harbor when he was an infant. In 1982, he moved to Albany.

A graduate of St. Peter's Boys High School, New Brighton, Mr. Gondar received an associate's degree from the College of Staten Island.

He worked as a licensed insurance agent and broker for Allstate for many years.

Mr. Gondar had a passion for music — especially rock-n-roll and country — and played the piano and guitar and sang in local bands for fun.

He also enjoyed boating and camping at Lake George, grilling and was known for being a handyman around the house.

Mr. Gondar was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit in East Greenbush, N.Y.

"He was always welcoming, full of jokes and laughs and made everyone smile," said his wife of 32 years, the former Alice Cinotti.

In addition to his wife, Alice, Mr. Gondar is survived by two daughters, Victoria and Julie; his father, Francis Jr., and a sister, Cheryl Gondar-LoBaito.

The funeral service will be Saturday from Lyon's Funeral Home in Rensselaer, N.Y., with a mass at 8:30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Spirit. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
