Louis L. Harper Jr., 64, of 629 Barnes Ave. died Monday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center after a long illness.

Mr. Harper was a native of Mississippi and a Syracuse resident for 37 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired as a construction worker. He was also a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are his mother, Callie Harper of Syracuse; three daughters, Catherine Holloway of Illinois and Valerie Crawford and Olwynthia Harper, both of Syracuse; 10 sisters, Willie Mae Steverson and Georgia Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn., Blandean Harper of California and Luvenia Williams, Catherine Gilbert, Ruby Smith, Jesse Harper, Jerline Harper, Erline Harper and Iola Branch, all of Syracuse; four brothers, Larkin Harper of Memphis, Tenn., Leo Harper and Curtis Walker, both of California, and Frank Harper of Syracuse; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the home of Callie Harper, 174 W. Matson Ave.

Edwin L. Cole Funeral Home, 2104 S. Salina St., has charge of arrangements.
