Enlisted, early 1898, in Troop C Cavalry, NYNG, Brooklyn, NY. He mustered in, May 20, 1898, for Spanish American service with Troop C, NY Volunteer Cavalry, at Camp Black, Hempstead, NY. After training at Camp Alger, VA, Troop C shipped out for Puerto Rico aboard the transport Massachusetts, from Newport News, VA. Troop C went ashore at Playa, port of Ponce, PR. He participated in the Puerto Rico campaign and saw combat at Coamo and Asomante. Troop C left for the States, September 3, 1898, from Ponce, PR, aboard the transport Mississippi, docking at Jersey City, NJ, September 10, 1898. He mustered out of volunteer service, November 26, 1898.

World War 1, commissioned, September 6, 1918, Major, JAG, assigned to Fort Sam Houston, TX. Discharged from the service, December 7, 1918.
