Studied in Vhuteine (Leningrad, 1926-1932) in R.R. Bach, W.B. Lishev, V.L. Simon, A. Matveyev. In 1942-1952 he taught at MIHPI. In the years 1952-1965, Professor VPHU name Stroganov. In the years 1957-1968 the secretary of the 1968 Chairman of the Board of the USSR Union. Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1964). Worked mainly in the field of easel sculpture. Her son was sculptor A.M. Balashov.
