Joseph Chancy Moon, son of Edgar and Esther Moon, was born on November 11, 1892, at Bluffton, where he spent the early years of his life. He came to Blackduck in 1904 and attended school here until he was about 17 years old when he went to work in the City Drug store for E.N. French. He purchased a half interest in the store in 1919 and bout out Mr. French's interest in 1922, continuing to operate the business until his death. With little schooling he attended the Minnesota Institute of Pharmacy and passed his state board examinations to become a registerd pharmacist.

Mr. Moon took an active interest in everything that would be a benefit to the community. He served as a member of the board of education from 1923 until 1938 and during these 15 years acted as school treasurer from 1917 to 1920 and as trustee from 1925 to 1927. He was an active member of the Community Club and one of the organizers and active members of the golf club, as well as other organizations, and was a member of the Bemidji Masonic lodge. He recently served for two years as a member of the Beltrami County Selective Board.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his grief stricken wife, Mrs. Marie Moon; one son, Thomas, of the United States Navy; and one daughter, Mrs. Inez Rice, of Tenstrike. Also four brothers and two sisters, William Moon, Charles O. Moon, and Mrs. Josephine Stowell, Blackduck; Al Moon, and L.M. Moon, Portland, Oregon; and Mrs. Rhoda Johnson of Anaheim, California, besides numerous other relatives. One sister and his parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held a 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. L.A. Marquardt, pastor of the church, officiating, and interment was made in Lake View cemetery where members of the Bemidji Masonic lodge, using its impressive burial ritual, had charge of the service. In respect of their business associate and friend, the business places of Blackduck were closed during the hour of the sad rites.
