COWARD: Mrs. Louise Matthews Swan Lee, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 17th, 2013, in Carolinas Hospital after an unexpected heart-attack.
Mrs. Lee was born in Coward on May 17th, 1918. She was the first the widow of the late Allen Swan, and then the widow of the late Allan Lee. Mrs. Lee was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Coward, and worked for many years as a seamstress manufacturing clothing in Florence.
Mrs. Lee was hard-working, independent, and strong-willed. She grew up during the Great Depression and had an inner strength that never left her until the end. Mrs. Lee was washing and ironing her own clothes, doing all her house work - including mowing her own grass and weeding her yards. She could remember the "good ‘ole days" when she could buy a month's worth of groceries for only twenty-five dollars, and when Highway 52 was just a dirt road to Florence.
Mrs. Lee was a devoted family woman with a heart of gold who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Lee's surviving family includes her three grandchildren, Angie Fowler (David), of Ringgold, Georgia, Jeffery Lynch, of Coward, and Robin Lynch McDonald (Jamie), of Florence; her six great-grandchildren; her seven great-great-grandchildren; her six nieces; her six nephews; and her many other extended family and friends.
Mrs. Lee is preceded in death by her three children, June Swan Carter (John "Snookie"), Jean Carol Swan, and Allene Swan Lynch (Robert); her seven brothers and sisters; her grandson, Johnny W. Carter; and her great-grandson, Christopher D. Fowler.
