World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Rishton, England, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 14th Service Battalion, Gloucestshire Regiment, British Army. During a night attack by the Germans on August 21 1917, at Epehy, France, 2nd Lieutenant Parsons was in command of a forward bombing post. When his men were forced to leave their position, 2nd Lieutenant Parsons remained at his post. He single handedly although severely being burnt by flamethrowers, continued to hold up the enemy with bombs. He delayed the enemy long enough to allow a relief party to assist him in driving back the enemy before they could enter any portion of the trenches. After his post was secure, he died from his wounds. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded Victoria Cross on October 17, 1917.
