O'HARRA Betty Lou O'Harra, age 82, of Westerville, died peacefully Friday morning after a sudden battle with cancer at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born April 16, 1925 in Bellevue, Ohio, she grew up in Tiffin, Ohio, where she performed in the Drum and Bugle Corps and played echo for taps during a ceremony. After graduating from high school, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she met and married businessman Robert O'Harra in 1954. Together they built Atlas Transfer Company into the city's most successful heavy machinery hauling company during the 1950s and 1960s. She and Bob loved to visit East Harbor-Marblehead on Lake Erie where they owned a cottage and Jupiter, Florida, where they spent winters in later years. They took many vacations fishing in the Florida Keys and in Ontario, Canada. After retiring, she and Bob traveled North America in a motor home. She volunteered many years with Twig. She played tennis as a young woman, and golfed regularly until she was 81. She was a devoted spouse, beloved mother and grandmother, known for her potato salad and tasty family dinners, needlepoint, meticulous housekeeping, independent attitude and no-nonsense approach toward life's difficulties. Preceded in death by her husband Robert L. O'Harra, mother Iva Mae Harrison and father Frank Harrison. Survived by two brothers, Edsel (Ruth) Harrison and Paul (Wanda) Harrison; half-brothers, Dan (Rita) Harrison, Marlin (Jeanne) Harrison, Jerry (Sherelene) Harrison; and half-sister, Carol Harrison; daughter, Patricia (Edwin) Jeffries of Orient; son, Doug (Helen) O'Harra of Anchorage Alaska; daughter, Pam Morrison of Gahanna; grandchildren, Gregory (Alicia) Jeffries, Bryan Jeffries, Gwendolyn (Jeffrey) Minor, Heather Morrison, Nicole Morrison, Dylan O'Harra, Michelle Morrison, Thomas O'Harra and Ariana O'Harra; two great grandsons and three great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday, May 6, 2007, 4-7 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007.
