Maggie Foster was the daughter of David Franklin Foster and Leanner Elvira Hensley, born and raised in the Mountaindale community on Spivey Mountain, Unicoi Co., TN. She knew her husband, Howell Hensley, as a child, as they lived near each. The Foster - Hensley families were closely bonded through several marriages: sister Matilda Foster married Howell's brother Burgess Gaither Hensley; sister Mariah Cordelia Foster, married Howell's brother, Allison Woodville Hensley; sister Nellie Catherine Foster married Howell's first cousin, Robert Burton Hensley; her brother, Adolphus Brownlow Foster married Howell's niece, Minta Jane Hensley all of whom lived in the Mountaindale Kittyton P.O. community of Spivey and were members of the Mountaindale Baptist Church. Maggie was age 28 and Howell age 37 when they married on July 11, 1912, in Unicoi Co., TN. A year later they had a daughter in July 1913. At age 35, her death was untimely as she developed acute appendicitis which ruptured and thus she died on June 29th from peritonitis per her death record. Howell never remarried and devoted his life to raising their only child, Pearl, who went on to college to be an educator and was the sole heiress of his estate.
