Mary was born in Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, Wednesday, March 25, 1925, and spent the majority of her life in The Pas and Thompson, Manitoba. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was happily married for over fifty years to Murray McKenzie, who was an accomplished photographer. Mary worked at Kerr's Furs in The Pas when she met Murray. When they were married and began having children, Mary became a homemaker and mother. She was a wonderful cook and was fiercely protective of her children. Even though the early years of marriage were full of hardship and jobs were hard to come by, Mary always made sure her children were fed and their clothes were clean. She was a bright shining example of Christianity. Kindness and love were amongst her constant virtues. Although having lived most of her adult and married life in Thompson, she always referred to The Pas as her home. She spoke regularly on the phone with her sister, Dorothy, and visited The Pas as much as she could especially when her grandson, Kevin, played for the "OCN Blizzard". As loud as the crowd cheered for their home team, no one cheered louder than Mary. She loved hockey and cheering for her sons, Bruce and Peter, and her grandson, Kevin. Mary passed away peacefully with three of her daughters by her side at 7:17 am, August 4, 2011at Oakview Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, age 86 years. Mary is survived and dearly missed by her seven children: Bruce, Linda, Peter, Diane, Debbie, Gayle and Robert; her ten grandchildren: Christine, Terry, Sean, Stacey, Anna, Kevin, Jennifer, Sarah, Jessica and Stephanie; four great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Katelyn, Nadia and Aimee; and her sister Dorothy.
