Stella Darlene Nolan was a beautiful eight year-old girl, with blue eyes and blonde hair. She was a third grader at the Colin P. Kelly School in Compton, California. She had a best friend named Barbara Ann who was also eight. Her father was a truck driver and her mother operated a hot dog stand.
She died the day before Father's Day and that morning she said to her mother, "You know what Mommy? I'm think I'll give Daddy his card today. You can't tell him what's going to happen, and I think I'll give him his gift too." The gift was a bottle of her father's favorite hair lotion.
The card read "Dear Father, I hope you have a very happy Father's Day. From Darlene to you."
