Caroline was the first ever exchange student, returning after a year abroad, in Jul 1926. She earned her degree from Smith College in 1927.

She worked as a high school teacher at George School in Newtown, Bucks, PA.

In 1933 she got a degree in Library Science from the Pratt Institute in New York and worked at the New York Public Library and then as a reference librarian in the art library at the Brooklyn Museum.

Married 17 Apr 1936; they were the parents of David, Elizabeth & Mary Gibbs.
