Walter Erastus Cole was the youngest child of Georgiann Cole of Fannin County, Georgia. He had an older brother, Gus and he was called Rast. They lived with their mother in the household of their grandfather, James Knox Polk Cole. After their grandfather died in 1927, his 2nd wife, Sarah told them to leave. So, Gus and Rast went north to the copper mine in Polk county, TN. There they found housing and work. Finally they decided to go east to Cabarrus county, North Carolina where they had an aunt who ran a boarding house.
They found work at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, N. C. and remained there the rest of their lives. Gus married Mozelle Brindle and Rast married Margare Basinger. They never had children of their own.
They were a happy couple who visited Gus and enjoyed his children.
