Sister Helen Lieffring, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 94, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse, surrounded by several members of the nursing staff and her religious sisters. She was in the 75th year of her religious profession.

Sister Helen was born to John and Myrtle Helen (Webb) Lieffring on June 28, 1918, in Eau Galle, Wis. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1934 and made profession of vows in 1938. Ministering as a homemaker, Sister Helen served her sisters for 40 years in convent homes in Iowa, Guam and Wisconsin. From 1978-1990 she was a missionary in Wewak, Papua, New Guinea where she taught adult religious education and sewing. For the next nine years Sister Helen visited the sick and elderly in Hurley, New Richmond, and Glenwood City. She moved to LaCrosse in 1999 and made her home at Villa St. Joseph in 2000.

Sister Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John and Frederick, and seven sisters, Rosalie, Lucille, Dolores, Elizabeth, Veronica, Jean and Mary.

Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, when her body will be brought to St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, LaCrosse.

Blaschke-Schneider Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
