Son of the late Robert Lee and Geneva Dellinger Kanipe, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force (Korea). He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He owned and operated Morganton Chair, Inc, for 30 years. He was survived by his wife, Mildred Conley Kanipe; a son, Michael Kanipe (Susan); a daughter, Kellie Armmentrout (Lewis: four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and an extended family of relatives and friends. In a addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Valentine. His graveside funeral with military honors was officiated by The Rev. Keith Rose and Steve Parker.
