West Leyden ~ Oliver H Ernst, 70, died unexpectedly at his home this morning, although he had been in poor health for some time.
Mr. Ernst was born near West Leyden June 5, 1890, son of Christian and Eliza Pepper Ernst. He was educated in local schools. In his youth he learned the cheese making trade and engaged in this work in several factories in this area.
He and Iva M Hofferd were married in Rome, November 28, 1911 by Reverend S. S. Davis. They purchased a farm near West Leyden and operated this until 1930 when the bought another near this village. They have since lived here.
Mr. Ernst had been a bus driver for the West Leyden Central School, a justice of the peace and member of the town board of West Leyden. he was a member of the Reformed Church of West Leyden, Boonville Lodge, F&AM, and the West Leyden Fire Department.
Suviving are his wife, one son, Lyndon H., Ava; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother, LeRoy D. Ernst, West Leyden; a sister Mrs. Elaine Long, Buffalo; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville, with Reverend Bert Pennings, pastor of the West Leyden Reformed Church, officiating.
Interment in West Leyden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience.
