According to family oral stories passed down Earnest went to fight in the Philippines in the Spanish-American War (1898) or the Philippine-American War (1899–1902). He was believed to have died, but it was discovered later that he came back without his family knowing and started another family.
Dora then married Nels Vidrickson on Sept. 7, 1900 (her daughter Jessie took Vidrickson as her last name until Jessie married Joseph Disney).
Later Dora and Nels divorced sometime around late 1911 or early 1912 and then she married Ossie Alvertice "Bert" Disney, Joseph's older brother, in 1912 until granted a divorce July 26 1922 and was final 6 months from this date.
