Emmett Wallace Jones, age 88, of Grant, AL, passed away November 1, 2012 after a five week illness. He and Margie Mayhall Jones had been married 69 years. He worked as a builder for Joe Chorba Construction. After retiring from construction, he worked six years for the City of Grant as police dispatcher. He loved to work outdoors and always had a garden up until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Jones; a son, Jimmy Jones and his wife Angie; two daughters, Ann Guest and her husband Stan and Janice Jones-Bailey and her husband Ron; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marliss Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Mickey Sutton Jones, and brothers, Raymond Jones, Rayford Jones and JD Jones.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 4, 2012, 2:00 p.m., Grant Memorial Chapel. Bro. Anthony Barnes and Bro. Steve Stanfield officiating. Burial will follow in Free Home Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mark Jones, Joe Whitaker, Matt Whitaker, Mickey Chad Jones, Brad Whisenant, and Robert Patterson, Sr. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Bearden, AG Sutton, David Ayers, Rex Ledbetter, Ricky Davis, Doyle Mefford, and Paul Headrick. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
