Lizton - Funeral services in charge of Rev. George F. Leonard were held in the Christian church, Saturday, at 2 o'clock for Emmett Kennedy, who died at his home here after a long illness. Rev. R. Richmond Blake, Robert Wilhoit, Misses Loleta Clifton and Amanda Leak with Mrs. Ida D. Jones at the piano, sang special numbers. Those attending from a distance were Dr. and Mrs. R. O. Kennedy of Rushville; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Landrus, Miss Clarice and Charles Overstreet, Indianapolis, Virl Kennedy of Elnora, Chester Neal and mother, Mrs. Anna Turpin Neal of Brownsburg.

Obituary - Robert Emmett Kennedy, the subject of this sketch, was born October 1, 1850, near Jaris, in Bourbon county, Ky. His parents were Jacob and Martha Rupart Kennedy. He was their oldest son and second child. The late Ellen Richmond was his older sister. His parents moved to Indiana when he was four years old. They lived first on the Flathers farm near the Tolbert school. In a short time they moved to the Edgar Foster farm and while there Jacob Kennedy bought the tract of land and built the house where Homer Kennedy lives. This land and the land south and east was covered with the thickest timber and brush in this part of the country, and one night when Mr. Kennedy started home he got lost and was out all night. It was here this family of children grew up in pioneer surroundings. Here they received the teachings of good principles, high ideals and love of nature.

October 10, 1872, Emmett Kennedy and Susan Overstreet were united in marriage. In a short time they moved to Indianapolis where they lived four years, then they bought a farm three miles south of Lizton, where they lived until 1907, when they moved to Lizton. Mr. Kennedy became a member of the Lizton Christian church in August, 1904, under the pastorate of Rev. Thomas Jones of Seymour, who was a soldier in the Civil war. Mr. Kennedy remembered the Civil war and could tell interesting stories of those times, including stories of the Home Guards and Knights of the Golden Circle. He was always interested in community affairs and civic movements.

Mrs. Kennedy died March 31, 1924, and he died February 28, 1935. Since the passing of Mrs. Kennedy his daughter made a home for him and cared for him during his long illness. He leaves two brothers, Thomas N. Kennedy of Lizton, Edgar Kennedy of Pittsboro, one sister, Miss Cora Kennedy of Lizton. Also two sons and one daughter, Elmer Kennedy of Lizton, Dr. R. Otis Kennedy of Rushville, and Vangie, wife of Granville Leach, with whom he made his home. There are four grandchildren, Curtis Kennedy of Tipton, Virl Kennedy of Indianapolis, Mrs. Leora Landrus of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Rowena Cramer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are also three great grandchildren.
