Private John Wadwart of Captain F. A. Atwater's Company, (A) of the Forty Second Regiment of United States Ill Inf. Vol. was enlisted by Capt. Northrop of the 42nd Regiment of Ill. Inf. Vols. at Chicago, Ill. on the Fourteenth day of September 1861, to serve three years; he was born in ______ in the state of Prussia is Twenty six years of age, five feet four inches high, light complexion, Blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty (60) days.

Station: City General Hospital, Chicago, Ill.

I certify that I have carefully examined the said John Wadwart of Captain Atwater's Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of gun shot wound through left metatarsus received at battle of Chickamauga September 20th 1863 while in the line of duty. He is unfit for the Veteran Reserved Corps. Degree of disability one fourth.

John Wiedowart of Ahnapee town, has been granted a pension of ten dollars per month, to date from June 1890. Mr. Wiedowarts many friends will be pleased to learn that Uncle Sam has dealt with him so generously.



DEATH OF JOHN WEIDEWART

John Wiedewart, an early settler of the town of Ahnapee, passed away Tuesday forenoon. He died from a complication of diseases. He contracted pneumonia by catching cold last week Tuesday just a week before his death and this complicated with valvular disease of the heart hastened dissolution-his death occurring on June 4, 1901.


He served during the Civil War getting an honorable discharge when it was over. He was a gentleman of quiet disposition, a good father, a kind husband, sociable and lived to a good age, he being 69 years old at the time of his death. He leaves a wife, one son, Fred, and four daughters to mourn him.


The funeral will take place Friday from the German M. E. Church. Rev. W. G. Schmidt will officiate.

John Wedewart had ties to Wilhelmina Wedewart, who lived in John's household for some years with her son William Wedewart. Her 1893 obituary indicates that Wilhelmina was John Wedewart's niece.
