The son of Daniel & Mary Jane (Sprenkle) Graybill, in 1850 the family lived in West Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania. In 1860, he was a farmer living in York Borough and stood 5' 10" tall with dark hair and gray eyes. He apparently never married.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in York August 29, 1864, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 31 as a private with Co. K, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry. In 1890, he lived in York Borough, York County, where he died at his nephew's home of a "cerebral hemorrhage."
