Son of Archibald Alfred Egles Weir and Anna [Ritter] Weir, of Fieldhouse, Oxfordshire, England.
Husband of Mary Evelyn Oldfeld [Bartlett] Weir, [b. 9 May 1887], whom he married in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 8 October 1910.
Of Shaftesbury, Dorsetshire, England.

M.A.(Oxon.) Worcester College, 1903-1907.

He also served in the 1914-1918 War,
Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry Regiment,
1st Battalion.
He subsequently transferred to the RAF.


His sons,
Major Adrian John Anthony Weir, M.C.,
and
Flying Officer Archibald Nigel Charles Weir, D.F.C.
also died on active service in WW2.

Wing Commander Archibald Weir was onboard the SS Nerissa, enroute Halifax, Nova Scotia, to England, which was torpedoed on 30 April 1941, by U-552 commanded by Erich Topp [d. 2005], NW of Ireland. SS Nerissa was carrying Canadian troops, including a detachment of 175 North-West Mounted Police and their horses.
His body was found washed ashore at Corraun Point, Blacksod Bay, Co. Mayo, and was buried on 5 July 1941.

He is buried in Grave No. 13.

He is commemorated on the 1939-1945 panel (panel 15) on the Grangegorman Memorial.
