The Irish Guards.
1st Battalion.

Aged 24.
Son of Mrs. Sarah Brien, of 5, Sleaty Street, Graiguecullen, Carlow.

Buried in Sleaty Cemetery, Co. Laois [c.2 miles NW of Carlow town].


In the 1911 census, the Brien family were living at Graiguecullen.
Present were,
Lawrence Brien, aged 58, a Labourer - General, born in Co. Carlow
Sarah, his wife, aged 48, Born in Queen's Co. [Laois].
They had been married 30 years and had 10 children, 6 of whom were alive
James, son, aged 23, a Labourer,
Charles, son, aged 20, a Waiter [unemployed]
John, son, aged 17, a Messenger,
Kate, daughter, aged 14, a Scholar,
Margaret, daughter, aged 12, a Scholar,
Sarah, daughter, aged 8, a Scholar,



Charles Brien is thought to buried in
Sleaty Old Burial Ground
but his grave could not be found there when visited in April 2014
