FORMER CIVIL WAR VETERAN, BANKER, PASSES IN SEATTLE

Olympians will be grieved to learn of the passing of Levi W. Ostrander who died this morning at the residence of his son Harry F. Ostrander, in Seattle.

Mr. Ostrander came from Wisconsin to Olympia during the earl eighties and was for a number of years associated with the First National bank of this city, and thereafter with banking, logging, and shipping institutions in different sections of Western Washington.

He was a man of recognized business integrity and his loss is keenly felt by all old time Olmpians.

Besides his son Harry, who with his family resides in Seattle, the deceased's immediate relatives are Herbert McMicken of the Federal Land Department of this city, and Maurice McMicken, a prominent Seattle attorney.

Funeral service will be conducted at Seattle, following which the remains will be brought here for interment, with brief services at the Masonic cemetery only, at 12 o'clock noon nexext Thursday.

LEVI WELLS OSTRANDER DIES - Pioneer Banker, 80 Years Old, Succumbs as Result of Paralysis.

Levi Wells Ostrander, father of H. F. Ostrander, prominent in shipping and financial circles in this city, died at the residence of his son, 200 40th Ave. N., early this morning as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered several weeks ago. He was 80 years old, having been born April 30, 1841, Aztelan, Wis. Soon after the outbreak of the Civil War, he volunteered as a private and served with the 29th Wisconsin Infantry, and rose to the rank of a first lieutenant.

After the war he settled at Lake Mills, Wis., and engaged in merchandising. He was there married to Hettie S. Fargo, who died at Olympia, August 5, 1894. With his bride he removed, shortly after his marriage to Mantorville, Min., where they resided until 1883, when they came to Washington Territory. Mr. Ostrander engaged in banking in Olympia, Puyallup and Shelton, but retired from active business several years ago.
