Son of the Rev. Joseph Walker Hall and his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Hall.

On his draft registration card (6/9/1917), Mansell is described as 5'11", of medium build, with brown hair and eyes, and not bald. His marital status in 1917 is single, and he states that he supports his father and sisters, indicating that his mother is deceased.

After serving in WWI, Mansell married Flora Edith Hall (maiden name unknown) of Arkansas about 1919. They had at least one child, Mansell Nathan Hall, b. 1920 in Arkansas. Mansell and Flora were divorced by 1930, when Mansell's marital status is "divorced" on the 1930 US Census record. The 1930 census shows that Mansell was living in Memphis with his widowed father Joseph Walker Hall and Mansell's two unmarried sisters Danie and Pearl.

After his father death, he continued to live with his sisters Danie and Pearl in Memphis. On the 1940 US Census, his occupation is "Salesman".
