Barbara Jones of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the HPH Hospice in Brooksville.
She was born Sept. 20 1944, in London, England, to Stan & Sally Stanley.
Barbara was a competitive swimmer in her youth, but chose a nursing career over a chance at the Olympics. In later life, she switched careers to banking, from which she retired in 1996.
At the time of her death, she had been married to her husband, Ivan, for 46 years. As well as her husband, she is survived by daughter Katrina Faris of Ontario; Aidan Jones of New York and Richard Jones of Vista, Calif.; and grandchildren Kathleen Faris, Ian Faris, Andrew Jones and Dez Jones. She was predeceased by her grandson, Sean Faris.
In accordance with her wishes, a celebratory service will be held here in Homosassa at 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Wilder Funeral Home, 4890 S. Suncoast Blvd. (U.S. 19), Homosassa Springs, FL 34446 (352-628-3344) and afterward at home for nibbles and refreshments.
Barbara's ashes will be taken to Canada to rest with her grandson Sean. A similar celebratory service is planned in Harriston, Ontario, for Nov. 10. That date is not confirmed yet.
As a polio survivor, Barbara suggested that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Rotary International Polio Fund through Rotary Club of Homosassa Springs, P.O. Box 2029, Homosassa Springs, FL 34447, USA, or to a charity of your choice .
Finally, the two services mentioned above are to celebrate Barbara's life. She requested that no one wears black.
