EFFIE MAY BROWN

Effie May Cox, daughter of George and America Cox, was born July 14, 1877 in Wayne county, near Corydon, Iowa, and passed away Dec. 30th, 1951 at the Anderson Nursing Home in Chariton at the age of 74 years, five months and 10 days.

She had been staying at the nursing home for the past year, except for 10 days spent in the Yocom hospital the latter part of October and early in November of last year, recuperating from a broken hip. She had been bedfast ever since.

She was united in marriage to Roy Brown on April 10, 1910. Two children were born to this union: Mrs. Audrey James of Des Moines and Willie of Chariton.

The family lived on a farm eight miles southeast of Russell, where they lived until Mr. Brown's death in 1927. Mrs. Brown lived with her son Willie and wife until she moved to Chariton several years ago.

She and her husband attended the Pentecostal church near Russell soon after marriage, and upon moving to Chariton, Iowa, she became a member of the Assembly of God church there.

Mother Brown attended church faithfully as long as she was able. The Bible was her guide, and she brought up her children accordingly, in love and truth. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Words cannot express how much we will miss her.

She leaves two children, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was one of six children: Will Cox of Seymour, a twin sister, Mrs. Ethel Lacey of Chariton and Mrs. Mary Thomas of Allerton. A sister, Mrs. Dora Seward and a brother, Ben Cox, preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn her passing a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, under the direction of the Downs Funeral Home, were held Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 1:30 p.m. from the Assembly of God church in Chariton, with the Rev. Merlin N. Steen officiating. Burial was in the New York cemetery in Wayne county.
