Richard Dole, 90, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Dole will be 10:30am Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 415 Main Street, Iowa Falls, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. A time of visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday also at St. Mark's Catholic Church with a 4:00 pm Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 7:00 pm Scripture service. The Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa., has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Richard Joseph Dole was born July 7, 1922, at Eldora, Iowa, the son of Joseph Edward and Susie Ann [Reed] Dole. He graduated from the Owasa, Iowa Community Schools with the class of 1939. He was inducted into the United States Navy on September 22, 1942, serving during World War II until being discharged on January 8, 1946, having served mainly on the USS Kenneth Whiting. On February 18, 1950 Richard was united in marriage to Norma Lucinda Schelling at Grundy Center, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born: Karen, Diane, and Donna. After his wife passed away, Richard was united in marriage to Audrey Louise Copeland at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Marshalltown, Iowa, on September 8, 1962. To this union three children were born: Edward, Cynthia, and Melissa. Richard lived in Hardin County his entire life, farming near Hubbard, Iowa for 10 years, near Iowa Falls, Iowa for 10 years, and then becoming a postal carrier for the Iowa Falls Post Office in 1955 and retired in 1987. He was a member of St. Mark Parish, Iowa Falls; the Frank McGivney Knights of Columbus Council #5835 (Past Grand Knight); the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post #188 (Past Commander and Past District #3 Vice Commander, member of the Honor Guard and helped organize the Sons of the American Legion for Post #188; 40 & 8; a Life member of the Borschel-Schwebke Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #8708. He was also awarded the Iowa Falls Community Service Award and was honored by the Governor of Iowa for his volunteerism. Richard is survived by his wife: Audrey Dole of Iowa Falls; his children: Karen Dole of Mason City, Iowa, Diane [Gerald] Konicek of Marshalltown, Iowa, Donna [John] Robbins of Iowa Falls, Edward [Lynette] Dole of Omaha, Nebraska, Cynthia [Kenneth] Chizek of Clear Lake, Iowa, Melissa [Troy] Patterson of Iowa Falls; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; his siblings: William Dole of Winterset, Iowa, Harold [Jean] Dole of Grundy Center, Iowa, Ruth [Glen] Donner of Hills, Iowa, Marilyn Arnold of Story City, Iowa, Patricia Lofquist of Port Orange, Florida, and in-laws: Nancy Dole,. Arland and Carolyn Lepper, Velma Copeland. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Susie Dole; his first wife: Norma Dole; and 4 brothers: Lee Dole, Fred Dole, Glen Dole and Larry Dole; a sister: Helen Roling; and in-laws: Ted Roling, Larry Arnold, Nancy Dole, Carolyn Dole, Margaret Dole, C. V. and Geraldine Keith, Michael Lofquist, Harley Copeland.
