John W. Tatum, Jr., age 63, of Palatka, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and had lived in Palatka for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, where he served as District Deputy and was on the Knights of Columbus State Board for Charities. He had worked for 5 years with the New Orleans Police Department and for 22 years with the City of Palatka Police Department. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of VFW Post #3349 and a former member and Past Exalted Ruler of Elks BPOE Lodge #1232 in Palatka. He lived his faith and supported St. Jude Children's Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Lynn and his parents, Zoila Centeno & John Wayne Tatum, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy Tatum of Palatka; 2 daughters, Leah Porcelli & husband, James of Estero, Florida and Kimberly Felten of Palatka; sister, Rose Mary Harms & husband, Fred of Carterville, Illinois; brother, Perry Tatum of New Orleans, Louisiana; 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Felten, Joshua Porcelli, Alexa Porcelli, Ian Ryan, and Nolin Ryan; nieces and nephews, Stacie Speith, Shannon Harms, Damian Tatum, Justin Tatum along with 5 great nieces and nephews.
Mass of the christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 17, 2011 at St. Monica Catholic Church with Father Ignatius Plathanam and Father Bob Napier officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery with the City of Palatka Police Department conducting funeral honors and the U.S. Army conducting military honors. The Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers and conduct funeral honors. Friends may call Thursday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
